Smile...and be nice

I went for a talk yesterday. Shell is having a global week on Diversity and Inclusiveness. Basically, you have to respect people are different and we have to accept each other’s differences.

So managing micro-inequities does sound so imperious, but it is actually rather simple. Micro-inequities simply means:
Small, often very subtle actions (may even be subconscious) that make another person feels alienated. Malays have a better definition – Buat orang kecil hati.

It was an insightful course that taught us simple gestures could initiate unhealthy feelings. Things like rolling your eyes when a person is talking, talking about going lunch to bak kut teh when there’s a muslim in the group and missing out a person in your email distribution list.

So today, in the spirit of embracing diversity, inclusiveness and micro-inequities….I shall smile to everyone!
Today, there will be another talk – boys will be boys and girls will be girls! Oooo….I’m definitely going for that one.
