Yesterday, Opi pasted a self-made Malaysian flag on the garbage disposal door, in front of the house. It has a full moon, a 4-edged star, 4 red lines and 5 white lines. Obviously that was his interpretation of the Malaysian flag.
On it he wrote “selamat hari medeka” (note: not my typo; it was exactly what he scribbled).
“Ini bulan Merdeka. Kita kena ada flag”
“Why?” I asked him.
“Sebab…kita duduk kat Malaysia. Kenalah flag Malaysia. Kita bukan duduk kat US“
I was quite stumped by his answer.
So Husband bought both of them two proper Malaysian flags. They perched the flags on my side lattice. And started jumping red-indian style, “Merdeka…Merdeka…Merdeka…”
Whatever it is, Opi’s self-made flag is still being displayed in full, proud force.
If a 7-year old can appreciate Merdeka..I’m sure all of us do too.
