Just a thought for the children...an excerpt from Kahlil Gibran's Children.
"...They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you..."
But as I read it more and ponder upon it...this is mainly for the parents to keep a fresh reminder daily. And to accept the challenges, weaknesses, pains and tribulations of raising children. We can say that we want the best for them....the best school...the best friends...the best experience...the best everything. But ultimately, we cannot run their lives.
There were occasions when I remember Mak told me about dah lama makan garam and I remember telling Isya the same thing. I guess that's all we can do - impart our own experiences and hope that they don't do the same 'mistakes'.

the kids never being touched by a blow. They came "though ur sins scarlet, they shall be as white as snow"
tapi ek, the natives didn't know snow from jungle moss lah. lately, opie n aboy changed the line to" be white as the meat of coconut". tu pun after both of them climbed coconut trees and shaken down the nuts for lunch!
