I didn’t watch the recent Malaysian Film Award but the media had such a big hoo-haa over a certain individual who commented that “I sound stupid talking in Malay so let me do this in English…” or something to that effect.
I seriously and honestly do not get it. As in…I don’t understand what’s the big deal here. I’m not a fan of hers as I have never watch any of her movies but I don’t quite understand what’s the fuss about.
She admitted that she sounds stupid. She didn’t say people who are talking Malay are stupid. She didn’t say speaking English is superior. So what’s the big deal again?
I’m not for nor am I against what she said. I’m just perplexed over how such a small issue (if its an issue at all) can be blown out of proportion. If I recall correctly, I once read an article about Maya Karin who admitted that she cannot speak Malay so she prefers her interview to be done in English. Everyone was fine then. Why is it not fine now?
Sarimah Ibrahim once admitted her Malay is simply atrocious. Everyone was fine with that.
Paula Malai Ali admitted the same, and so did Deanna Yusoff.
Aah…I got it…we’re okay if it comes from anak campur – mixed parentage. But kalau melayu pure…tak boleh…
My malay is not perfect…my England is also not perfect…I’m pure Malay…habis aku kalau jadik celebrity…hahahahaha!!

This is a tactic, to swerve the hot story from the woman who's getting married and speak bad english, to another who won Best Actress and speak bad malay.
hahahaha....I never thought of that...but thats soooo funny!
