Old Malay people say "sayang anak, tangan-tangan kan". Or the English saying - Spare the rod, spoil the child. At which point of loving a child, does the child turn into Sazali, in P Ramlee's Anakku Sazali?
You love your children, no doubt. But will you spoil them? I buy Isya sweets everyday before I come home from work. If I miss a day, she'll throw her tantrums. Has she become a spolit brat? Over sweets?
Can the love a parent be repaid?
Susah senang from baby...the birth, the late night feeding, the diaper-changing, the colic, the cries, the fever, the sneezes, the throw-ups, the schooling, the tutoring, the kissing-the-hurts-aways......
Sekoyan emas pun tak boleh bayar.
Sometimes as a parent, we love our children to bits. And deep inside us, we hope that they will repay us back with their own unconditional love.
Sometimes they do....sometimes they don't.
Mak kata bila dah ada anak sendiri, then baru tau...the love and the pain.
Kahlil Gibran - You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls....

Maybe the sweets, to Isya, is your 'denda' for going to work.
So, by not buying her sweets, you are getting away with your 'denda' hence the harsher punishment - tantrums
